Claim Drafting Practice

(Pressehof) Heidelberg - Strategies and techniques for drafting claims has never been more important. Recent changes governing claim construction in Europe and the U.S., as well as stricter examination and patentability standards, have placed a new premium on carefully drafted claims and a supporting specification. For example, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has squarely placed the burden on the patentee to effectively and clearly claim their invention. In addition, in Europe and the U.S., it has become harder and more expensive to obtain valid and strong patents.

A course, hosted by Forum Institut, one of the leading seminar providers in Germany, will explore the differences between the European and U.S. patent systems, and will provide information about the main traps and pitfalls and how to avoid them. The course includes claim drafting workshops for the European and U.S. practitioner.
DotFuture

(Pressehof) Heidelberg - The proposed launch of new generic top-level domains in 2010 is likely to cause an unprecedented shake-up to the domain name system and the Internet. It presents a significant challenge and considerable burden on rights owners who will need to reconsider their online strategies carefully. The issue of trademark protection has risen to the forefront and it has become clear that careful management of the launch is critical to avoid these new TLDs offering the opportunity of a fertile field for cybersquatting, phishing and other illegal and unacceptable behaviour.

What is the ICANN process that has led to this? How should brand owners react to this potential explosion in new generic top-level domains? What changes in strategy are necessary to protect brands and customers? What rights protection mechanisms will be in place? Should brand owners be considering applying themselves to run a TLD? What type of TLD and for whom? A conference, hosted by Forum Institut, one of the leading seminar providers in Germany.
